Dear Thing by Julie Cohen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A tender, exquisitely-crafted, emotional novel about love, trust and motherhood, Dear Thing was captivating right from the very first pages.
After numerous attempts at IVF and no luck, Claire and Ben are on the verge of losing hope of ever having a baby. Then Ben’s friend Romily offers to surrogate their baby for them. But as Romily’s stomach grows, she realizes so are her feelings for Ben. Three friends, two mothers, but only one baby.
This is a beautifully woven tale written with believable characters that practically jump right off the page. Every single character feels emotional turmoil in such a real way, you can’t help but be pulled in. I loved the sharpness to the story and the eloquence to the writing. An absolutely beautiful story.
