The Missing One by Lucy Atkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
An atmospherically stunning novel set amidst the dramatic backdrop of British Columbia, The Missing One is about Kali, who’s emotionally distant mother has just died. She suspects her husband is cheating on her, and as she has a son to look after, her career has ground to a halt. When her mother dies, Kali goes on a quest to find out why she was so distant with her. Along the way Kali finds out why her mother never spoke about her past.
The writing is beautiful and lyrical, the atmosphere stunning, the story compelling. It is a character-driven novel, so isn’t immediately a page turner, but the suspense does ramp up towards the last half of the book and the writing is so beautiful I still loved reading it. A fantastic book by a superbly talented author!
