Finding Jake by Bryan Reardon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was instantly engaged in this book and have found myself thinking about it loads since I read it. As parents we always second guess ourselves and it’s just a hope and a prayer that we’re doing the right thing.
Simon’s world is turned upside down when he learns about a shooting at the school his kids Jake and Laney go to. Simon races to the school, fearing the worst, but is stunned when he finds out Jake is missing, and a suspect in the shooting.
I would’ve loved to see more scenes between Simon and Jake to really see their closeness, but the story is so great, and the characters so well developed. The twist at the end was unexpected and really great! Ultimately the story explores the parent/child relationship, the way the world treats those who are different, and sensitively uncovers the mystery of what happened that fateful day.
