A Mother’s Confession by Kelly Rimmer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Absolutely blown away by this book. The story switches POVs between Olivia, whose dealt with abuse from her husband David for years, and Ivy, David’s mother, who thinks everything he does is perfect. But now David is dead, Olivia is in shock, and Ivy is furious, while mourning the loss of the son she thought could do no wrong.
Because the characters were so real I alternated between frustration, fury and pity. Kelly Rimmer has told an important story that affects a lot of women, accurately showing how victims are often treated as if the blows and cruelty are their own fault. Shocking and uncomfortable, heartbreaking and bleak, this is an emotional read you won’t want to miss.
The story is intense, harrowing and haunting. It shows the different perspectives of emotional and mental abuse, as told by a wife and the abuser’s mother. The writing was beautiful, the characters well-developed, and the twist at the end totally unexpected. I loved it.
