The Retreat by Mark Edwards
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I’ve been reading Mark Edwards’s backlist and enjoying every single one. The Retreat is atmospheric, creepy, and haunting, about a writer who goes to an idyllic retreat to finish writing his horror novel. Except this writing retreat is different than most. First of all, the house might be haunted. Then there are the creepy woods. And the woman running the retreat is definitely troubled after losing her family in a tragic accident two years before.
The book is fast-paced and I blazed through it, not wanting to put it down at all. Perfectly plotted, sinister, and absorbing, The Retreat is a first-rate, gripping thriller.
