After years of being extremely, horrifically ill, Rose Gold learns that her mother, Patty, has been causing all of it. Diagnosed with Munchausen by Proxy, Rose’s mother, Patty, is sent to jail for endangering her child. But now Patty’s out. And Rose has waited a long time for her mother to come home.
Alternating between Patty and Rose’s POV, we try to figure out who’s manipulating who, with a lot of questionable narrating going on.
Like My Lovely Wife, this book isn’t your typical suspenseful, twisty thriller. It’s so, so much more. And like My Lovely Wife, it’s unpredictable and insidious, with characters that deviously creep under your skin; and trust me, these characters are crazy as hell.
Your loyalties shift from one to the other then back again. You don’t know what to think or who to believe. Every piece of the story smoothly intersects with the next, the flashbacks, the flashforwards, every single character. This book is seamlessly written, dark and complex, with a plot that constantly surprised. I can’t recommend it highly enough!
