The Language of Kindness: A Nurse’s Story by Christie Watson
A really lovely medical memoir about being kind in the face of very difficult tasks. Much of the book was quite dry, with a lot of medical jargon that I think might be confusing to people not in the medical industry. This meant it took me months to finish, but that may be more to do with the fact that nonfiction books don’t tend to hold my attention well. Still, the stories of how Christie cared for her patients are real and filled with a genuine warmth and empathy.
It was greatly upsetting to read how little valued nurses are, despite all that they do within the NHS, but there is a wonderful takeaway of how we should do more for each other and that a little kindness goes a long way.
