What She Never Told Me - Kate McQuaile

What She Never Told MeWhat She Never Told Me by Kate McQuaile
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a really beautiful, poignant, character-driven novel about Louise, who rushes back to Ireland from London to say goodbye to her dying mother. But even then, she isn’t able to get any information out of her mother about her biological father. Shortly after her mother’s death she learns that her mother wasn’t really her mother. Not sure who her real mother was, nor her real father, Louise decides to find out who she really is…

I enjoyed reading about Louise, and all the characters in this novel. Kate McQuaile is talented at creating characters who are complex, realistic and flawed human beings, so I found them instantly relatable and likeable. The story and plotting is intelligent and suspenseful, although don’t expect a fast-paced thriller – this is a character-driven domestic suspense novel at its best.

What She Never Told Me focuses on identity, betrayal, lies and loss, as well as the lies parents tell for reasons good and bad.
