The Darkest Lies - Barbara Copperthwaite

The Darkest LiesThe Darkest Lies by Barbara Copperthwaite
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Really great premise about a mother desperate for the truth after her daughter goes missing and is discovered beaten almost to death. Consumed with grief, Melanie decides she must find out what happened to her daughter, who did it, and why. But nobody in the village is talking.

I wanted to love this book because the premise is so great, but it wasn’t very fast paced and I found the main character bit too silly, selfish and unlikable to find compelling. She kept getting in the way of the investigation in really silly ways. That being said, the atmosphere of the marshlands and flatness of Lincolnshire is well written and simply stunning. Still, it’s a solid read with an excellent premise.
